In the initiative promoted by Inova-Ria on February 21, we welcomed nine young scientists (children) for an activity marked by enthusiasm, discovery, and plenty of “lava.” Through the construction of an erupting volcano, we explored a simple yet scientifically meaningful chemical reaction, demonstrating that science can be fun, practical, and accessible to everyone.
The experience allowed participants to work on basic chemical reaction concepts in a visual and interactive way, reinforcing the idea that learning by doing is one of the most effective strategies to consolidate knowledge and spark curiosity.
At our laboratory located in the Albergaria-a-Velha Municipal Library, scientific activities are part of our ongoing commitment to promoting ICT and the STEAM approach (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics). These sessions are designed to develop both technical and behavioral skills from an early age.
During the activity, the children developed:
Scientific thinking and critical mindset
Observation skills and hypothesis formulation
Teamwork and collaboration
Problem-solving abilities
Creativity in model construction
Technological curiosity and connections between science and robotics
The STEAM activities carried out at the Programming and Robotics Laboratory are essential to fostering digital and scientific literacy in the early stages of learning. Beyond conducting experiments, we aim to provide structured experiences that encourage children to understand the world around them and to see themselves as creators — not merely consumers — of technology.
We remain committed to promoting initiatives that bring together science, technology, and creativity, because it is at this intersection that the skills of the future are built.
